Rainy Pass Repair is a sewing repair shop in Seattle, WA, specializing in outdoor gear repairs and modifications. This includes rain gear, ski wear, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, and more.

We are a GORE-TEX® authorized repair facility, so all repairs and alterations on GORE-TEX® fabrics will be waterproof and maintain the warranty. We can work on many other types of waterproof breathable materials as well, such as eVent, HyVent, PolarTec and Schoeller fabrics.

Our shop rate as of March 2017 is $83 per hour with a $20 minimum per item for repairs, alterations, and gear modifications.

6. We will contact you when we receive the package and have a quote ready- usually within 1 business day.

Our staff of highly trained sewers and tailors have over 30 years of experience working on outdoor gear repairs. Our staff is trained in apparel design and custom tailoring, and we are all enthusiastic craftspeople. Most of our staff share your interest in camping, skiing, and other outdoor activities, so we have field tested many of our own repairs and modifications.

We are a full-service sewing shop, but we do not sell or distribute any parts, trims or fabrics. If you need to purchase a zipper or a swatch of fabric, we recommend Seattle Fabrics, Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics, and Rose City Textiles– These companies have wide selections of outdoor fabrics and trims and have great online stores for your convenience.

The RPR Story

Bob Upton, an apparel design graduate and the founder of Rainy Pass Repair, was an avid skier and outdoorsman who worked at REI and often helped customers with repairs on their gear. One day, among the racks of neon ski wear and huge external frame backpacks that were so popular at the time, he had an idea. He would start a company that could help customers all over the country to fix and modify their outdoor gear.

We still work very closely with REI and many of their affiliated manufacturers, all these years later, and we are the only shop in the USA that is recommended by WL Gore & Associates for repairs and alterations of Gore-Tex® fabric products. We have seen many changes in the industry and we are ready to help you fix or modify your gear to maximize your outdoor experience.

Fast forward to today- we have a larger location, still in Seattle, and a growing staff that is ready to help you repair that favorite jacket or get the perfect fit on your new ski pants. During peak season (Nov to March) we process about 1000 orders per month, ranging from zipper repairs to alterations to tent & pack modifications.

We are committed to high-quality repairs with a “factory finished” look. We also have an on-site commercial laundry service for down and waterproof breathable items, and a leak testing facility for drysuits. If you need a service that is not listed on this website, feel free to give us a call or an email and if we cannot help you directly, we can probably refer you to someone else who can.
