People often call to ask us “What gear should I buy? What is the best gear available?” It is difficult to say what exactly you should buy- there is so much great gear out there, and everyone has different needs and tastes. The best tip we can offer to any consumer is BUY AMERICAN. The number of outdoor companies producing goods in the USA is on the upswing, and it is up to us to encourage this trend.

There are many benefits of buying American-made goods:

  • You are helping to create and maintain jobs with important trade skills in the USA, and you keep your money circulating in this country.
  • American labor standards ensure that the manufacturing processes are environmentally sound and workers are treated fairly.
  • Shipping goods across states instead of seas reduces the carbon footprint.
  • US made goods can often be repaired or replaced at the factory where they were manufactured, and if you have a problem, you can often speak to someone who is directly involved in the manufacturing process.

Online shopping makes it super easy to buy American- many online retailers let you filter your searches by “Made in USA.”
